San Diego Citizens for Accountable Government believes strongly in the need for wholesale changes to the way San Diego is managed, and that the Citizens’ Budget Plan is the place to start. Each of the candidates on the City’s November ballot was asked to complete a survey that required them to identify which Citizens’ Budget reforms they supported. The results of those surveys are presented to you to help you cast an informed vote.

Candidate Surveys
San Diego Citizens for Accountable Government does not endorse or support individual candidates for elective office. Information provided is intended to solely inform voters on financial problems facing the City of San Diego and positions taken by various candidates for elected office.

Clicking on a candidate's name will take you to a page that contains the candidate's responses to the survey, as well as a link to the actual document sent from the candidate's campaign. Because some surveys were sent by fax, images of the faxed pages appear instead of the original Word documents.

Propositions
Unlike in candidate races, San Diego Citizens for Accountable Government can take a position on ballot propositions and suggests these recommendations for your consideration.

San Diego Citizens for Accountable Government supports the following propsitions:

Proposition D (Access to Government Information)
Proposition E (Ethics Commission Independent Legal Counsel)
Proposition F (Strong Mayor Trial Form of Governance)

San Diego Citizens for Accountable Government opposes the following propositions:

Proposition J (Transient Occupancy Tax Increase)
Increasing the Transient Occupancy Tax is a blank check tax increase that throws good money after bad. The City of San Diego has not been accountable with its finances. Instead of correcting documented waste and inefficiencies, it is sticking the taxpayer with the bill by trying to raise taxes.

Proposition H (Composition of Retirement Board)
This proposition does nothing to eliminate the conflict-of-interest that caused the pension fund crisis in the first place. The same people who created the problem will still be able to serve on the Retirement Board Moreover, this proposition does nothing to remedy the gross underfunding and mismanagement that has created a $2.3 billion pension fund deficit.
