Prepare for an Increase in Public Activity: Campaign Stops, Parades and Protests

Dear Law Enforcement Professional:

With the official kickoff of the 2004 presidential election just months away and the talk of war protests pervading the media, law enforcement agencies at all levels need to prepare for securing and controlling an increasing number of local events.

To help law enforcement agencies prepare for this increase in public activity, the Performance Institute and LawEnforcementJobs.com are sponsoring a national summit for law enforcement personnel focusing on the planning, management and execution of major public events.  This event, the 2003 Summit on Major Events Planning for Law Enforcement Agencies, will be convened at the Wyndham City Center Hotel in Washington D.C. on March 25-27, 2003.

Secure and Coordinate Sporting Events, National Holidays and Other High Profile Events

This national summit will include discussion and analysis of case studies and best practices from Washington, D.C., Seattle, and planning for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.  Expertise and lessons learned will be shared by those who participated in the actual planning and management of the event.   In addition to these case studies, the summit will address the major issues in a two component format: Planning & Preparation and Execution & Management.

What You Need to Know About Civil Disturbances:  Crowd Control Tactics, Crisis Response and Use of Force Case Law

Planning & Preparation

s         The planning component will include expert presentations on plan management, executive protection, protective intelligence, working with private security agencies, and stadium security

Execution & Management

s         The execution and management component will cover coordination, crowd control, crisis/ WMD response and use of force during civil disturbances

Use of Force

s         Law enforcement civil disturbance liability and risk management case review

Application workshops on planning and managing major events and risk management for civil disturbances will be conducted on March 27, 2003.

I hope that you will join us as we bring together law enforcement agencies on the federal, state and local levels to facilitate best practices on this emerging issue. Space is limited, so please contact us right away.  To request more information to register yourself and your team, call 703-894-0481 or visit us online at www.PerformanceWeb.org.
