WASHINGTON – Carl DeMaio, president of The Performance
Institute, today released the following statement on
the White House report, The Federal Government is Results-Oriented:
A Report to Federal Employees.
“Today’s report reiterates the continued
government-wide commitment to improving the results
generated for American taxpayers by the federal government.
In three years the President’s Management Agenda
has attempted to improve the performance of the federal
government by improving the management of the federal
government. It calls for a range of changes to the way
the government operates on a day-to-day basis, from
the way it budgets and spends taxpayer dollars to the
way it hires and trains its employees.
Cascading those kinds of fundamental changes through
a workforce of more than 1.8 million people requires
leadership, commitment, and time. As this report demonstrates,
those investments are paying off in the form of noticeable
performance improvements and significant cost savings.
We’ve always known that on their own, federal
employees have been committed to results. What we’re
seeing now is an intense focus on making sure that everyone
from entry-level employees and line managers to senior
executives and political appointees is working together
to ensure that each and every government activity is
generating mission-aligned results.
That’s why the title of the report is so significant.
The federal government is results-oriented. The institutionalization
of that philosophy is already paying dividends and will
continue to do so for years to come.”
