ARLINGTON, Va. – The responsibility of leading
the federal government’s efforts to ensure that
taxpayers are getting the most for their money through
efficient procurement and acquisition requires strong
leadership at the Office of Management and Budget and
a strong commitment from Congress.
As such, the Performance Institute urges the Senate
to confirm the nomination of David Safavian to the position
of director of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy
at the Office of Management and Budget.
“The procurement and acquisition reform agenda
facing the government is extensive and requires strong
leadership,” says Carl DeMaio, president of The
Performance Institute. “Significant improvements
to the process are necessary to ensure that the government
is the ‘smartest shopper’ possible. David’s
experience on the Hill and at GSA make him an ideal
candidate to lead the OFPP. We’re confident that
he will ensure that procurement is done fairly and in
the taxpayers’ interest.”
If confirmed, Safavian will lead the Executive Branch’s
implementation of the recently passed Services Acquisition
Reform Act (SARA), which mandates critical and sweeping
improvements to federal procurement to keep up with
a rapidly changing economy.
“SARA is a good place to start, but we need new
ideas and innovative solutions to the problems the government
acquisition community continues to face,” DeMaio
said. “David will bring an open mind and a deep
commitment to improving service delivery to the taxpayer.”
